Recently, some netizens noticed that when opening a Claude Pro subscription, it was prompted that the Claude Code benefit was not included. For many developers, the main purpose of paying for a subscription is to use Claude Code. Therefore, if this benefit is deleted, developers will need to pay higher fees to subscribe to other packages.

Currently, Company A mainly provides Claude Pro subscriptions starting at US$20 per month and Claude Max subscriptions starting at US$100 per month. Originally, these subscriptions included all paid benefits, but Max subscriptions can obtain higher Claude Code usage quotas (5x or 20x).

So if the $20 subscription removes the benefits of Claude Code, developers will need to pay at least $100 per month to open a Claude Max subscription. If the developer's usage is not that high, subscribing to the $100 version of Claude Max will be a waste.

In response to this news, engineers from Company A also responded. Simply put, the current situation is that Company A is quietly conducting A/B testing. About 2% of new users who are planning to activate Claude Pro subscriptions will not be able to use Claude Code, and the remaining 98% of users who are planning to activate new subscriptions can use Claude Code normally.

Existing Claude Pro and Claude Max subscribers can also continue to use Claude Code, and the relevant rights and interests will not be affected at all. As for the reason for such testing, it is most likely that Company A wants to force developers to pay higher fees to use Claude Code.

How to deal with this differential treatment:If developers really want to activate Claude Pro and use Claude Code, they should carefully check the rights and interests when activating it. If they find that Claude Code is not included, they can consider changing the IP + registering a new account for testing to avoid affecting their paid rights.
