Recently, a man in Gaoyou, Yangzhou, Jiangsu, was riding an electric bicycle by the roadside. Out of curiosity, he used a lighter to light up the willow catkins piled up on the roadside. The ignition point of willow catkins is extremely low. The fire spread rapidly after contact with an open flame. It completely lost control in about 1 minute and quickly spread to a white car parked on the roadside, causing the vehicle to be ignited.
After discovering the fire, the man immediately tried to put out the fire on his own by stepping on his feet, getting water, etc., but failed to control the fire, and the open flames at the scene rekindled.
When the surrounding people discovered the fire, they called the police in time and participated in the disposal. After local fire rescue personnel arrived at the scene, it only took 5 minutes to completely extinguish the open fire.

After verification, the man was an employee of the company. This behavior directly caused damage to the car involved, causing property losses and safety hazards.
Currently, the man caused the fire due to his negligence and has been handed over to the public security organs for handling according to law. He will bear corresponding legal liability and civil compensation liability in the future.
The fire department reminds that catkins are highly flammable and can easily spread quickly when exposed to an open fire. It is strictly prohibited to ignite catkins. The public should call the police for help as soon as they discover a fire.
