Late one night in July 2025, 26-year-old Feng Yulang sent his last WeChat message to his wife Xiaofan: "Good night, my dear wife." The time was fixed at 3:23 in the morning. When his colleagues opened the office door the next day, they found Feng Yulang lying on a folding chair, no longer breathing. On the medical certificate of death, five words were written coldly: Sudden cardiac death.

The company where Feng Yulang works is small, with only three people including Feng Yulang. There was no labor contract and no "five insurances and one housing fund", but because of his professional counterpart and the appreciation and trust of the person in charge of the company, Feng Yulang cherished this opportunity.

Xiaofan said that her husband's company is a project system and the working hours are not fixed. The day of the accident was the 19th day that Feng Yulang stayed in the office to work overtime in a month. Feng Yulang also handled work in the early morning that night.

After Feng Yulang’s death, the family was left with a long struggle to defend their rights. Xiaofan applied for work-related injury recognition, but was rejected by the Yulin Human Resources and Social Security Bureau.

The reason given by the Bureau of Human Resources and Social Security is that Feng Yulang died more than 10 hours after leaving get off work, and records provided by the company show that he participated in team games from 1 to 3 o'clock that night.

Therefore, the Human Resources and Social Security Bureau determined that although Feng Yulang died in the company office, he engaged in personal gaming activities for a long time after returning to the office and rested on a folding bed in the early morning. He could not be deemed to be at "work" when he died.

"Playing games is to relax, to slow down and continue working." Xiaofan couldn't accept this conclusion.

She pointed out that her husband’s computer screen showed that he had four architectural design software open at the time.

This administrative lawsuit regarding "work-related injuries" opened on April 10, 2026, and is still waiting for the final judgment.
