NVIDIA has now officially released the new RTX 5070 notebook GPU, equipped with 12GB of video memory, filling the performance gap between the existing RTX 5070 and RTX 5070 Ti. What’s puzzling is that Nvidia announced this new GPU SKU in a GeForce Game Ready driver update rather than through a separate event.

Nvidia stated that the existing 8GB version will not be replaced, which can provide partners with more choices and ensure stable supply while the supply of video memory is still tight. Prices are expected to vary slightly, but these laptops will still cost significantly less than laptops with the 5070 Ti graphics card that come standard with 12GB of VRAM.

RTX 5070 laptops are very popular in the gaming field. These laptops not only offer great gaming performance but also powerful AI processing capabilities, making them ideal for mainstream users. Now, Nvidia has added a new configuration to its GeForce RTX 5070 laptop product line. This new configuration is equipped with 12GB of video memory, which is a 50% increase from the original 8GB capacity.

Here is the full press release:

"Demand for GeForce RTX GPUs remains strong, while memory supply is tight. To maximize memory availability, we are releasing a 12GB configuration of the GeForce RTX 5070 laptop GPU with 24Gb of G7 memory. This gives our partners access to an additional pool of memory to supplement the 16Gb that most GeForce GPUs currently ship with. G7 supply. The 12GB configuration will sit alongside the existing 8GB configuration, allowing our partners to offer consumers a wider range of GeForce RTX 5070 laptops.”

In other words, the new RTX 5070 will use 3GB GDDR7 memory modules instead of the 2GB option used in the existing RTX 5070.

In terms of specifications, except for the memory capacity, there are not many changes. The RTX 5070 12GB notebook graphics card still uses the Blackwell "GB206" GPU, with 4608 cores, 144 texture units (TMU) and 48 rasterization units (ROP).

The memory configuration is the same as before, with a 128-bit layout and a 24 Gbps GDDR7 memory module. However, the RTX 5070 12 GB version does not use a 16Gb (2GB) memory module, but a 24Gb (3GB) memory module. This increases the memory capacity by 50% under the same interface. Bandwidth also remains unchanged, with GDDR7 memory bandwidth of 384 GB/s.
