Microsoft quietly updated its official recommendations for Win11 game memory configuration in a support document: 16GB is still the bottom line, but 32GB is the worry-free choice. This advice didn't come from the technology department, but directly from Microsoft's marketing department.
Microsoft does not define 16GB as obsolete and still positions it as a practical starting point, but 32GB is no longer regarded as exclusive for enthusiasts, but has been shaped as a more secure and forward-looking choice.
The reason given by Microsoft is not that the game itself has become more memory-consuming, but points to multi-tasking scenarios: running Discord in the background, multiple browser tabs, and streaming tools.
Coupled with launchers such as Steam, Epic or Xbox applications, and various resident background services, the memory usage will increase rapidly, and the game will eventually compete with all these processes for memory resources.
It is worth noting that the official minimum memory recommendation for Windows 11 is still 8GB. What Microsoft hopes to convey is that "16GB is a must and 32GB is a worry-free zone."
