Arch Linux officially released the May 2026 ISO snapshot version 2026.05.01. This is the first Arch installation image pre-installed with the Linux 7.0 kernel series. The specific kernel version is 7.0.3. The new kernel has significant improvements in hardware detection. It not only provides better support for new platforms, but also improves the recognition capabilities on older devices, making up for the previous problem that some ISOs could not identify specific components. For users who still prefer the long-term support branch, Linux 6.18.25 LTS is still available in the repository.

The new version of the image also introduces the upgraded Archinstall 4.3 installer and a new "Additional Fonts" option in the application menu. Users can directly choose to add Noto Unicode (covering a wide range of character sets), Noto Emoji (providing color expression support for browsers and applications), and Noto CJK font variants for Chinese, Japanese and Korean characters during the installation phase, thus solving multi-language display needs at one time when initially installing the system. The installer will also automatically enable the power management service after the software package is installed, fix issues related to encrypted partition selection and file copying, and complete the Hindi localization translation.

In terms of desktop environment, this ISO upgrades KDE to Plasma 6.6.4 and supports KDE Frameworks 6.25 and KDE Gear 26.04; the GNOME desktop provides version 50.1 including Shell, Mutter and core components. Other optional environments include Cinnamon 6.6.8, Hyprland 0.54.3 and COSMIC 1.0.11, providing users with different preferences with multiple choices of mainstream and emerging desktops. In terms of graphics and audio stack, the image integrates Mesa 26.0.6, PipeWire 1.6.4 and BlueZ 5.86, laying the foundation for the use of desktop multimedia and Bluetooth devices.

At the application level, this snapshot includes updated versions such as Firefox 150, LibreOffice 26.2.3 and Blender 5.1.1, providing a relatively "out-of-the-box" browsing, office and content creation environment for newly installed users. It should be emphasized that this ISO release does not mean that existing Arch users need to reinstall the system. As long as they perform a complete system upgrade, they can obtain the same latest software environment as the new image. The main significance of this ISO is to provide new installations with a fully updated software baseline as of April 2026, reducing the time and traffic costs required for the initial update after installation.
