An announcement posted on the website of Grimes County, Texas, USA, shows that Musk's commercial aerospace company SpaceX plans to initially spend 55 billion (approximately RMB 374.6 billion) to build a "phased, next-generation technology, vertically integrated semiconductor manufacturing and advanced computing manufacturing factory" in Texas, USA.

The project is expected to have an initial capital investment of US$55 billion. If subsequent phases are completed, the total investment is expected to be as high as 119 billion US dollars (approximately RMB 810.5 billion).

The announcement reads that this will be “a transformative investment in indigenous semiconductor manufacturing capabilities.”

This announcement serves as notice of a public hearing scheduled for June 3. The notice states that SpaceX plans to use a property near Gibbons Creek Reservoir in Grimes County.

Musk announced the Terafab project in March this year, aiming to produce chips for AI, robotics, and space businesses. The project plans to support 1 terawatt of computing power per year in the future, with the goal of producing 2nm chips.

According to foreign media reports in April, Musk’s assistants quickly contacted semiconductor equipment giants including American Applied Materials, American Lam Group, and Japan’s Tokyo Electronics to obtain quotes and delivery times for the equipment needed to manufacture semiconductors. Musk plans to move forward with the matter at "light speed," a person familiar with the matter said.
