Reuters reported that Alibaba officially announced plans to integrate its artificial intelligence platform Tongyi Qianwen with e-commerce platform Taobao. The move aims to replace traditional keyword searches with conversational interactions and reshape shopping models.
After this integration is implemented, consumers no longer need to manually browse the product list. They only need to talk to the AI agent in the Tongyi Qianwen app to browse products, compare prices and place orders. Tongyi Qianwen will have access to Taobao and Tmall's over 4 billion product categories across all categories. Relying on its exclusive capability database, it can undertake full-process logistics dispatching and after-sales rights protection services; it can also intelligently recommend products based on users' historical orders and shopping preferences.
The Taobao APP will also launch an AI shopping assistant powered by Tongyi Qianwen, equipped with practical functions such as virtual try-on and 30-day price trend tracking.
Alibaba's increased emphasis on AI-driven shopping highlights the differences in the development paths of Chinese and foreign e-commerce platforms: the domestic e-commerce model can deeply embed artificial intelligence into the entire process of real transactions; while the layout of overseas platforms is more decentralized and conservative. Although $Amazon (AMZN.US)$ uses AI to optimize the shopping experience on the site, it is cautious about fully autonomous smart shopping; Canadian e-commerce platform $Shopify (SHOP.US)$ only supports access to third-party AI agents and has not built a self-developed integrated AI platform for consumers.
