Sony recently announced the ESRB age rating of "GTA6" in its newsletter in advance, ahead of Rockstar and ESRB officials. As expected, the game received a "Mature 17+ (M)" rating and is recommended for players aged 17 and above.

Reasons for the rating include that the game contains adult content such as violence, nudity, alcohol, and crude language. For fans of the series, this news is welcome. In the past few months, there were concerns that Rockstar might "soften" the game. This rating shows that the core qualities of the game have not changed significantly.

On the other hand, the release of the rating itself is also a positive sign. Typically, games don't receive an ESRB rating weeks to months before release. Therefore, the appearance of the rating means that Rockstar is expected to adhere to the November 19, 2026 release date. The project has been postponed twice before (it was originally planned to be released at the end of 2025).

It should be noted that ESRB ratings only apply to the U.S. market. The rating for the European region will be handled by PEGI, which has not yet been officially announced, but is expected to be marked as "18+".
