Hyundai Motor Group has formulated plans to deploy 25,000 Atlas humanoid robots developed by its subsidiary Boston Dynamics and produce core robot components in U.S. factories, according to investor relations information released on Tuesday.
The plan was presented at an investor relations conference hosted by JPMorgan Global Investment Bank. Hyundai Motor Group stated at the meeting that its goal is to achieve an annual production capacity of 30,000 Atlas robots by 2028.
The group said it plans to deploy more than 25,000 Atlas robots at the production bases of Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors, but did not provide detailed deployment plans or specific factory information.
Hyundai Motor Group also said it plans to produce more than 300,000 actuator units per year at its U.S. factories. Actuators are key components of a robot and function similarly to joints and muscles.
The deployment is part of the automotive group's phased strategy to integrate humanoid robots into core manufacturing processes.
During a recent overseas roadshow, Kia Motors CEO Song Ho-sung outlined plans to deploy humanoid robots at Kia's Georgia plant in 2029, following an initial rollout at Hyundai Motor Group's Metaplant America plant in Georgia in 2028.
