Uber proposes to acquire German food delivery company Delivery Hero at a valuation of 10 billion euros

Berlin-based Delivery Hero said in an announcement on Saturday that it had received an acquisition offer of 33 euros per share from Uber and that "the company will continue to fully implement the strategic evaluation process." The offer is slightly higher than Delivery Hero's closing price on Thursday.

According to the terms, Uber, which holds a 20% stake in Delivery Hero, will need to pay approximately 8 billion euros. The US company disclosed last Monday that it also has options on a further 5.6% of the shares.

Delivery Hero has been conducting a strategic review of its assets amid pressure from shareholders. Affected by slowing growth and fierce competition, the global food delivery industry is consolidating, and many of Delivery Hero's peers in Europe have become targets for consolidation. DoorDash, the leader in the U.S. food delivery market, agreed to acquire Britain's Deliveroo Plc last year. A few months ago, Prosus announced plans to acquire Netherlands-based Just Eat Takeaway.com NV.
