Ferrari has released its first all-electric car, a five-seat model priced at 550,000 euros (approximately $640,000), marking a major shift for the sports car maker that has traditionally focused on fuel vehicles.
The model is called Ferrari Luce. Sunday's launch event in Rome was the final step in a three-stage unveiling process that began with the reveal of core technology last year and was followed by further reveals of the interior design.
Luce has a power output of slightly more than 1,000 horsepower and can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in just 2.5 seconds, which is faster than the Purosangue SUV equipped with a V12 engine. The top speed exceeds 310 kilometers per hour. According to Ferrari's 2030 plan, pure electric vehicles account for 20% of its product lineup. The Luce thus becomes a key test case: Ferrari must prove that electric cars can also fit into its business model of limited supply, high pricing and emotional appeal, while expanding its product line beyond traditional two- and four-seat sports cars.
