Samsung Electronics will allow employees to use generative artificial intelligence (AI) models developed by other companies, such as ChatGPT, starting next month, according to an internal memo released on Tuesday.

The memo states that Samsung plans to officially launch an external generative AI service in June, targeting employees in its Device Experience (DX) department, which covers the company's display, mobile device and home appliance businesses.
According to industry sources, Samsung also plans to launch a training course on artificial intelligence applications in the second half of the year, which is expected to be attended by about 2,000 executives from Samsung Electronics and its major affiliates.
Previously, due to security concerns, Samsung employees were only allowed to use its internal artificial intelligence model Samsung Gauss.
According to company executives, employees must undergo security training to gain access to external AI models. They also added that the use of external AI models will remain limited to the company's semiconductor or device solutions (DS) divisions.
