Robinhood launched the AI agent stock trading function and simultaneously launched a new virtual credit card for AI agents. The company stated that users can now create separate accounts for their AI agents and connect to a dedicated wallet, allowing the agent to read and analyze investment portfolios, generate trading strategies and make investment recommendations, but actual orders can only use funds pre-charged into the dedicated wallet.

Robinhood said that users will receive notifications of every transaction executed by the AI agent, and can also view its activities directly within the Robinhood app; for some transactions, the system will also give a preview first, and the user will need to confirm before execution. The company has also added an anti-fraud protection mechanism. If a suspicious transaction occurs, the Robinhood team will review it and assist users in handling disputes.

At the technical level, Robinhood said that users can connect AI agents to its Model Context Protocol (MCP) service to analyze position concentration and industry exposure, execute transactions, or retrieve analyst notes to find new investment opportunities in different industries. This feature is currently launched in beta form and currently only supports stock trading. It plans to expand to options, cryptocurrencies, event contracts, futures, and prediction markets in the future.

In addition to the trading function, Robinhood has also launched a virtual credit card specifically for use by AI agents, allowing users to connect the AI agents to the company's bank MCP server to initiate payments. This virtual card is currently only open to Robinhood Gold Card holders. Users can set monthly limits and decide whether AI agents require approval before each payment. The company also said that the future Robinhood Platinum Card will also support similar virtual agent card functions.

Robinhood said that the company has been increasing its AI layout in the past few years. In 2024, it acquired the AI research platform Pluto, and last year added an AI assistant that provides investment advice. Abhishek Fatehpuria, the company's vice president of product, said that Robinhood launched these new products because it received a large number of requests from users who wanted to integrate their own tools, LLMs and agents into Robinhood.

This also means that Robinhood is not the only company using AI agents to take payments on its behalf. Startups including Stripe, Amazon, Google, and Prava Pay have recently been promoting the ability for AI agents to complete purchases and payments on behalf of users.
