Infinity Ward is bringing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 to the Nintendo Switch 2, which is a big deal since the Call of Duty series hasn't been on a Nintendo platform since 2013. Infinity Ward co-studio head Jack O'Hara talked about the process of creating a native version for Switch 2, calling the entire process "very smooth." Previously, former Xbox head Phil Spencer said there was "definitely" a lot of work to be done to get Call of Duty to run on Switch.

In an interview with GamesRadar, O'Hara talked about the situation of porting "Modern Warfare 4" to Switch 2: "As soon as we got the hardware, the game was running on the platform. So far, everything has been very smooth. To be honest, it is really fun to be able to land on a new platform."

The process of porting

In the same interview, O'Hara confirmed that cross-platform connections between Switch 2 and other console platforms and PCs are currently supported, but "the specific online matching range at launch will depend on the final situation."

The performance of Switch 2 is relatively weaker than that of PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, but it remains to be seen what compromises this Nintendo console version will make.

Microsoft, which owns Activision and the "Call of Duty" series, confirmed its plan to bring "Call of Duty" to the Switch platform as early as 2023, in order to appease regulators and promote the smooth completion of its blockbuster acquisition of Activision. At that time, Microsoft promised that the "Call of Duty" work on Switch would be "released simultaneously with Xbox, with complete functions and completely consistent content."

The last "Call of Duty" game to land on a Nintendo platform was the Wii U version of "Call of Duty: Ghosts" developed by Infinity Ward in 2013.

"Modern Warfare 4" will be available on Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC platforms on October 23, but will not be available on PS4 and Xbox One. The game is now available for pre-order, but the Switch 2 version is not available yet. Activision has also confirmed a "loyalty" discount for Modern Warfare 4, which will give players a 10% discount on the Vault Edition of the game.
