After purchasing the ticket, the Ebola epidemic broke out in many African countries, and Kenya was classified as a high-risk area. Due to safety considerations, Ms. Lan was forced to cancel the trip, which was a cancellation caused by objective force majeure.
Ms. Lan initiated refunds on the platform twice. All the involuntary refund options in the system such as the epidemic were locked and could not be checked. She had no choice but to check personal reasons to apply for a refund. In the end, the ticket of more than 3,000 yuan was refunded only more than 200 yuan, with a deduction of nearly 2,800 yuan. According to the airline's calculations, only about 1,860 yuan in refund fees were actually charged, and there was no basis for deductions for the remaining 800 yuan.
With the evidence in hand, Ms. Lan contacted Fliggy again to defend her rights, and the platform quickly made up the price difference that night.
In response to the issue of limited refund options, Fliggy stated that the terms of special international air tickets are complex, and some ticket types cannot open involuntary refund channels even if there is an epidemic. Special circumstances can be applied manually.
