Recently, the China Mobile International Roaming official account released the "Announcement on the Implementation of Network Adjustments by China Mobile Hong Kong (CMHK)". The announcement shows,Because China Mobile Hong Kong will implement network adjustments starting from June 23, 2026, it will no longer support 2G/3G services.
China Mobile reminds users that if their mobile phone is registered in the CMHK network, please ensure that the Internet function and VoLTE function are normally activated.
At the same time, users of one card with multiple numbers, weekly packages, and daily packages traveling from Hong Kong, China, must also ensure that the international and China, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan roaming functions have been activated to ensure that calls, text messages, and Internet access functions can be used normally.
It is understood that as early as June 30, 2025, China Mobile Hong Kong has terminated the provision of 3G services in order to concentrate resources on the development of 5G and more advanced network technologies.
In December of the same year, China Mobile Hong Kong announced that it would terminate the provision of 2G services on June 23, 2026.
China Mobile Hong Kong stated,As the market demand for 2G services continues to decline, as of November 2025, its 2G users accounted for less than 2.3% of the total number of mobile customers.
It is worth mentioning that in November 2023, when responding to netizens’ suggestions on ensuring the basic communication functions of old mobile phone users, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology stated that 2G/3G network withdrawal is an inevitable choice for the upgrading of mobile communication networks, and it is also the current main international practice.
However, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology also emphasized thatThe withdrawal of mobile communications from the network is not a simple matter of "quitting at the drop of a hat". User protection measures need to be improved, and withdrawal from the network can only be implemented on the premise of fully protecting the rights and interests of users.
