Google recently announced that it will launch a generative AI assistant service called Gemini Go for entry-level smartphones running Android (Go version), bringing a more complete smart experience to low-storage, low-memory and low-computing power devices. Android (Go version) is specially designed for low-end devices. Since Android 13 (Go version), officials have required such devices to be equipped with at least 2GB of running memory. Google has made it clear this time that only Android (Go version) phones equipped with at least 2GB of RAM are eligible to use Gemini Go.

Google describes Gemini Go as "a streamlined version of Gemini for low-storage devices, designed to help users stay connected and improve work efficiency." It is essentially a lightweight adaptation of Gemini's large model capabilities. At the functional level, Gemini Go will replace the previous Google Assistant Go and become the default intelligent assistant entrance on Android (Go version) devices, and provide services through the Google search application.
In terms of interaction mode, users can call up Gemini Go by long pressing the Home button, or long pressing the power button on some models, to start a conversation with it. In terms of specific functions, Gemini Go supports common scenario tasks such as making calls, sending text messages, checking driving times to designated places, searching for nearby restaurants and electric vehicle charging stations, setting alarm clocks, creating calendar events, playing multimedia content, etc. At the same time, users can also upload documents, photos and other files to provide more contextual information for conversations, allowing Gemini Go to respond and process more appropriately.
According to Google's pace, Gemini Go will be gradually opened to eligible Android (Go version) devices in a phased push manner. Considering Google's always "slow" and cautious batch update strategy, even if the device has met requirements such as 2GB RAM, users may still have to wait several weeks to actually receive the Gemini Go push.
