Three people familiar with the matter revealed that senior U.S. government officials have held preliminary discussions with large U.S. artificial intelligence companies to explore the possibility of the government taking a stake in these companies.

People familiar with the matter said that since the beginning of U.S. President Trump’s second term, Altman, CEO of the U.S. Open Artificial Intelligence Research Center, has regularly discussed this idea with senior government officials. Altman first pitched the concept to Trump in early 2025 and has discussed it again with senior administration officials in recent weeks, viewing it as a way to distribute AI-related economic benefits more broadly to the public.
It is reported that the focus of the discussion is to allow these companies to "voluntarily transfer their shares to the government" and the investment returns can then be used for public purposes. However, related plans are still in preparation and specific details have not yet been determined.
At present, neither the U.S. government nor relevant companies have responded to this request.
