Amazon has previously announced plans to run ads during TV series and movies on its streaming platform Prime Video. Recently, the company officially announced the date of advertising investment: January 29.

In an email Amazon sent to customers about its upcoming move to a "limited advertising" model, the company said: "This will allow us to continue to invest in compelling content and increase our investment over an extended period of time."

"We're targeting a lower number of ads than over-the-air TV and other streaming providers. No action is required on your part, and there's no change to the current price of your Prime membership." The company also said customers can choose to pay an additional $2.99 per month to avoid watching ads.

Amazon Prime currently costs $14.99 per month or $139 per year. (Including many other services, like Twitch Prime and free shipping on shopping sites, Prime Video can be subscribed as a standalone subscription for $8.99/month.) The new pricing model for ad-free streaming will bump the Prime price to $17.98, and the standalone Prime Video price to just shy of $11.98.
