At the Nintendo Direct held on Tuesday, Nintendo officially announced that it will launch a remake of the classic "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time" for Switch 2, which aroused great attention from players around the world. According to reports, this remake is planned to land on the Nintendo Switch 2 platform in 2026, and more specific information will be gradually disclosed in the future.

This is the first major new project in the "Legend of Zelda" series since the launch of "The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom" (Echoes of Wisdom) in 2024. This work features Princess Zelda as the protagonist and has sparked widespread discussion in the series. Prior to this, "The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom" (Tears of the Kingdom) launched by Nintendo in 2023 as a direct sequel to "Breath of the Wild" (Breath of the Wild) has established the benchmark status of these two open world works in the Switch era.

With the launch of the Switch 2 console, Nintendo has also provided enhanced versions of "Breath of the Wild" and "Tears of the Kingdom" to match the performance upgrades of the new hardware, allowing players to replay these two works on the new platform. Last November, Nintendo also launched Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, a Musou action game related to the world view of "Tears of the Kingdom", further expanding the content territory of the series.

In addition to the game itself, Nintendo is also accelerating the extension of the "Legend of Zelda" IP to film and television and other fields. A live-action movie adapted from the series is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on April 30, 2027, becoming an important step in the game maker's cross-border layout. Nintendo has previously released some stills of the film's starring roles, in which Bo Bragason will play Princess Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth will play Link. The costume designs of the two are considered to have clearly borrowed from the visual style of works such as "Breath of the Wild" and "Twilight Princess" (Twilight Princess).

With the remake of "Ocarina of Time" officially confirmed to be launched on Switch 2, "The Legend of Zelda", a series that has long been popular among players, will form a multi-layered combination of remakes, enhanced editions and new games on the new generation console platform. It is not only for new players who are exposed to the series for the first time, but also provides old fans of the series with the opportunity to embark on the journey of Hyrule again. Nintendo stated that more gameplay details, screen performance, release date and other information about this remake will be disclosed through follow-up promotions in the future.
