After its own Gemini large model was selected by Apple as the underlying technology for the new generation of Siri, Google is taking advantage of the opportunity to further expand its market share in the field of generative AI. One of its measures is to lower the price of the basic subscription plan Google AI Plus.

Previously, the Google AI Plus monthly subscription fee was $8, including 200GB of cloud storage; after the adjustment, the monthly fee was reduced to $5 (or the equivalent in local currency), and the cloud storage was doubled to 400GB, which can be used for services such as Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Photos, and is not limited to AI-related content. Google has given some reference prices in different regions, such as 5 US dollars in the United States, 7 Canadian dollars in Canada, 4.5 pounds in the United Kingdom, 5 euros in the euro zone, and 400 rupees in India. Users can check the specific pricing in their respective regions through Google's official page.

The report pointed out that this new AI Plus package has taken over the previous Google One storage subscription gradient in terms of actual functions, providing users with more prominent AI capabilities and higher storage space at basically the same price or even a slight discount. Google has also recently continued to add new features to paid users, including calling the Gemini assistant directly in the Gmail inbox, obtaining daily information briefings through Gemini Daily Brief, and using Gemini Omni for video generation, etc., all of which have been included in the Plus subscription.

This price reduction and capacity upgrade are seen as a move by Google to accelerate the acquisition of users in the AI subscription service market. In the context of Apple, Microsoft and other giants strengthening their own AI ecosystem, Google is trying to promote more ordinary users to migrate to the Gemini ecosystem through more cost-effective basic packages.
