According to industry insiders on Thursday, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman will visit South Korea on Sunday to hold talks with a number of large technology companies, including Samsung Electronics, to discuss cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence. During the two-day visit starting Sunday, Altman is also expected to meet with executives from portal operator Naver and mobile platform operator Kakao, sources said.

First, Ultraman plans to visit Samsung's offices in Suwon, south of Seoul, next Monday, where he will deliver a speech on the transformative impact of artificial intelligence technology and AI-driven workplace innovation strategies, they said.

The visit comes as Samsung Electronics recently announced plans to fundamentally reform its work processes and corporate culture and fully introduce artificial intelligence technology.

Ultraman's visit to South Korea will be his first visit to South Korea in about eight months since October last year.

During his visit last year, Altman met with Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong and SK Group Chairman Choi Tae-won respectively.

Although there are reports that Ultraman and Lee Jae-yong may meet again, industry insiders say that since Lee is currently on a business trip in Europe, this meeting is unlikely to take place.

People familiar with the matter also added that due to Ultraman's tight two-day schedule, a meeting with SK Group is unlikely.

Later next Monday, Ultraman will go to Kakao's headquarters in Pangyo, south of Seoul, to meet with Kakao CEO Cheng Shin-a to discuss how to expand cooperation between the two companies.

The two parties are expected to focus on how to strengthen the connection between ChatGPT and Kakao’s flagship instant messaging service KakaoTalk, especially in terms of utilizing conversation context across platforms.

In addition, Ultraman is expected to visit the Naver headquarters in the south of the city later that day.

Since Naver has built its own cloud and data center infrastructure, industry insiders said that this visit may open up new areas of cooperation between OpenAI and the Korean Internet giant.
