Nintendo announced on June 11 that sales of Nintendo Switch 2 (multi-language version) in the Nintendo Store had been temporarily suspended and would resume conditional sales in the future. This move was interpreted by the outside world as further restrictions on overseas resale.

There are currently two versions of Switch2 on sale in Japan: the Japanese domestic version (priced at 59,980 yen) only supports Japanese and can only be bound to a Nintendo account whose "country/region" is set to Japan; while the multi-language version (priced at 69,980 yen) has no such restrictions and can freely switch languages and bind overseas accounts.
Previously, Nintendo had set a number of purchase conditions in the sale of Switch 2, but with the recent increase in the price of the Japanese and domestic exclusive version, the official removed the condition that "Nintendo Switch game time exceeds 50 hours as of December 21, 2025." However, this relaxation seems to be taken advantage of by resellers. Nintendo confirmed that there have been a number of suspicious orders for the multi-language version that appear to be "buyout and hoarding" recently, so it decided to suspend sales and re-tighten the purchase threshold.

From now on, purchasing Switch2 (multi-language version) must meet the following conditions:
·As of 23:59 on May 31, 2026 (Sunday), the cumulative game time on Nintendo Switch in the Nintendo account exceeds 50 hours (excluding trial versions and free software)
·Limit one purchase per Nintendo account
The purchase conditions for the Japanese and domestic exclusive version remain unchanged, with only the "one device per account" limit retained and no game time requirement.

Analysis pointed out that the reason why the multi-language version has become a buying target is closely related to the fact that it is not subject to domestic restrictions in Japan and can easily flow to overseas markets. At the same time, Switch 2 has been warned of price increases in many overseas regions. The rush to buy before the price increase has led to shortages in some regions. Nintendo's reinstatement of the game time limit this time aims to curb the resale behavior of using multiple accounts to place orders in bulk.

Nintendo stated that it will continue to monitor the order situation in the future to ensure that normal purchase channels for ordinary players are not affected.
