Midjourney is extending its business focus from AI-generated images to the field of body scanning, proposing a body scanning solution based on ultrasound perception and large-scale data collection. The company envisions a system that can generate high-precision three-dimensional images of the human body in one minute, and claims the results are expected to be close to those of MRI, with a more comfortable experience.

This plan is still in the conceptual stage. According to Midjourney's description, users will enter a scanning cabin, where ultrasound signals will illuminate the human body from all directions, collect in-body data from multiple angles simultaneously, and then stitch this information into a more complete internal image. The company even envisions turning the entire installation into a softly lit, pool-like space to make the scanning process more of an immersive experience.
In terms of scale, Midjourney believes that the final ring system may contain about 500,000 sensors, each about the size of a grain of sand. Such a dense sensor array will continuously output ultrasonic signals and form a massive amount of data in a very short time. Officials say the data throughput may reach several terabytes per second.
Midjourney said the key is not just "collecting more data," but also how to convert these messy, overlapping ultrasound signals into clear and stable images. The company acknowledges that this is still a major unsolved computing problem, and it has yet to say how far away the technology is from actually being implemented.

What’s even more striking is that it doesn’t plan to use the technology only in hospitals or diagnostic facilities, but rather to package it as a consumer-facing service. Midjourney plans to open its first location in San Francisco, called Midjourney Spa, expected by the end of next year, in a setting that will be closer to a high-end wellness space, complete with hot pools, cold-water soaking pools and private rooms.
The company also said it will submit early test data to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to promote future regulatory approval of higher-capacity devices. At the same time, Midjourney has also scheduled its expansion plan to 2028 and is preparing to launch related services in more cities. For a company famous for generating images, this means it is trying to push "making images" further into a new direction of "seeing inside the human body."
