Recently, Sony revised the PlayStation business section of its latest annual report, replacing the previous statement about the PC platform with an emphasis on artificial intelligence (AI) technology. This document update has triggered discussions about a possible shift in the company's strategic focus.

According to the official annual report and a review of the revised content, the new version of the strategic document has deleted the statement about releasing PlayStation first-party games to multiple platforms such as PC, and replaced it with an emphasis on the development of artificial intelligence technology. The company now says it will use AI as a tool to increase development efficiency and improve gaming experiences, stressing that it is not intended to replace developers.

Give up PC completely! Sony's annual report deletes PC description and replaces it with AI development

The official document states that AI is used to accelerate asset production, animation generation and game testing, as well as to improve the quality of player experience. One of the in-house tools mentioned is called Mockingbird, a system that converts motion capture data into facial animations in seconds—a traditional process that would normally take hours. The technology is already being used in some internal projects at PlayStation Studios.

In addition, Sony is also exploring more application scenarios of AI, including personalized content recommendations and optimization of PlayStation Store services. Despite the change in wording, the company still emphasizes that the core of game development is still human creativity, and AI is only used as an auxiliary tool.
