According to multiple sources, Samsung seems to be ready to bid farewell to its vertical folding phone Galaxy Z Flip series. It will continue its previous practice of "burying" the Galaxy Note series and turn its resources and attention to the passport-sized Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the rollable screen phone under development. The industry generally expects that the new generation of rollable mobile phones in preparation is expected to succeed the Flip series in the medium to long term and become the new protagonist in Samsung's foldable form.

In May of this year, Korean media reported that Samsung was lowering the production target of the Galaxy Z Flip 8 and correspondingly raising the shipment expectations of the Galaxy Z Fold 8. Among them, the production of Galaxy Z Fold 8 is planned to be increased from 200,000 to 300,000 units, showing that Samsung intends to let this passport-style folding machine take on a more role in the small-size folding market. This is also seen as one of the early signals that the Galaxy Z Flip series may retire from the stage of history.
Recently, the breaking account @fireuniverse posted on the social platform that Samsung intends to shift its focus to the Fold series and "kill the Flip after the Note." This statement was understood by the outside world as: Galaxy Z Flip 8 is likely to become the "swan song" of the series, that is, Samsung's last vertical folding phone.
In terms of product form, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 will be further thinner than the previous generation Flip 7, mainly due to the new hinge structure design. According to previous information, the dimensions of the machine are 166.8mm × 75.4mm × 6.6mm in the unfolded state and 85.4mm × 75.4mm × 13.2mm in the folded state. This means that in the folded form, the Flip 8 is about 0.5 mm thinner than the Flip 7, and the body thickness control is more radical.
In terms of configuration, it is reported that the Galaxy Z Flip 8 will be equipped with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 platform, which will further improve the overall performance and energy efficiency. The screen will continue the overall layout of the Flip 7, and is expected to be equipped with a 4.1-inch external screen and a 6.9-inch internal screen, while greatly reducing the visibility of the crease. The back cover still has a dual-camera combination and LED flash. The overall appearance is closer to the previous generation, but the details and experience have been optimized.
At the same time, reports from Korean media Money Today stated that Samsung is preparing to launch its first rollable screen mobile phone and plans to officially release it to the market in 2028. As early as the past few years, Samsung has demonstrated its own rollable OLED technology at many large-scale technology exhibitions, accumulating technology and supply chain foundation for commercialization. In fact, Samsung registered the "Galaxy Z Roll" related trademark about five years ago to reserve space for subsequent product naming.
Against the above background, it is generally believed that as rollable mobile phones gradually mature, the Galaxy Z Flip route may eventually be replaced by new products such as the more topical Galaxy Z Roll. In the Samsung folding family, the future product line may be based on the passport-style folding Fold series and the rollable screen model, while the Flip series will gradually fade out of the market.
