On July 3, according to Reuters, people familiar with the matter said on Thursday,The Trump administration and AI giant Anthropic have yet to discuss a government stake in the company. The Financial Times reported earlier on Thursday that OpenAI had discussed selling a 5% stake to the U.S. government, raising questions about whether other AI companies were in similar discussions.

The companies are currently facing scrutiny from the U.S. government, focusing on the possible misuse of advanced AI models and whether Americans can benefit from the industry's huge valuations.
The U.S. Commerce Department had imposed export controls on two of Anthropic's most advanced models weeks ago over concerns that these powerful AI tools lacked adequate safeguards to prevent misuse. However, the Ministry of Commerce has now lifted the relevant restrictions.
As of press time, the White House and the U.S. Commerce Department did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Anthropic declined to comment.
