A new energy vehicle theft occurred in Yilong County, Nanchong City, Sichuan. The 21-year-old suspect Wang stole the vehicle and drove it back to his hometown to fully charge it before fleeing to Chengdu when he was stopped by the police. It only took 4 hours from the time the crime was reported to the time it was recovered. Mr. Wang lives in a community in Yilong County. When he was about to drive out at about 8 a.m. on June 22, he found that his vehicle was missing.
The stolen vehicle was a new energy electric vehicle purchased three years ago. Due to heavy rain the night before, Mr. Wang temporarily parked the vehicle outside the community and got off the vehicle to go home. He did not know when the vehicle was stolen.
After receiving the alarm, the Kexin Brigade of the Yilong County Public Security Bureau contacted the Investigation Sub-Center of the Xinzheng Police Station and jointly conducted the investigation with the criminal investigation department.
At around 10 a.m. that day, the police successfully identified the suspect and his escape area. At around 1:00 noon, police from Nikko Police Station and Jincheng Police Station received clues and stopped the suspect who was escaping in his car on the road.
Officer Feng, a case investigation police officer from the Xinzheng Police Station, said that the police obtained surveillance and found that at about 5 a.m. on June 22, the suspect Wang wandered to the roadside of a community near the North 3rd Section of Binjiang Avenue, Xinzheng Town, and stole a vehicle parked on the roadside by pulling the car door.
After opening the door of Mr. Wang's vehicle, he rummaged around and found that there was no valuables in the car. The car key was placed on the driver's armrest. Wang then started the vehicle and drove away.
Wang claimed that he stole the car to facilitate daily travel and planned to use the car as a temporary residence. He is 21 years old, has no legitimate job, and has not obtained a motor vehicle driving license.
According to his account, after stealing the car, he drove back to his hometown to fully charge the vehicle before driving to Chengdu, but was stopped by the police on the way.
The case is currently under further processing. Police remind drivers to remember to lock their doors after parking their vehicles.
