PlayStation has issued the latest announcement, informing publishers that they can still produce additional discs for existing physical versions of games after January 2028. This new news may bring some comfort to gamers, as they still have time to purchase and collect physical discs of released games.

PlayStation tells partners that games launched before 2028 can still be printed on physical discs in the future
According to a new report from Game File, Sony sent a partner notification to game publishers stating that they "can still continue to place restock orders for existing PlayStation physical disc games."
PlayStation has clearly informed its partners that any games released before the deadline will still be able to continue to produce and print physical discs in the future. However, PlayStation also stated that one thing will change, and that is the "disc ordering process", and relevant details will be announced in the future.
As for what happens after the deadline, Sony said publishers will still be able to release new games through retail channels, but the format will change to digital redemption codes. Therefore, players can now be sure that even games released in 2027 will still be able to buy physical disc versions in 2028.
However, we still don’t know in what form these new games will be sold in retail channels in the future: Will they be simple redemption codes, cards with built-in digital codes, or other forms? Players may have to wait for Sony’s subsequent official announcement to know the answer.
