Quantum Systems Group, a German drone technology company, recently announced that its latest electric drone has achieved a maximum flight speed of 699 km/h in internal tests and is applying to the Guinness World Records for official certification as the "World's Fastest Drone". The company stated that the test flight was completed under "straight and stable flight" conditions. The current record is still "unofficial", but the engineering team is confident in the final approval.

The protagonist of this achievement is a drone called Apex Recordhunter, designed and developed by Quantum Systems’ in-house team N3XT. Robert Gardemin, senior prototype engineer for quantum systems, described the project as "a complex engineering challenge." It took more than a year from project establishment to successfully breaking through the 699 km/h speed node, and experienced many technical setbacks and iterations along the way. The company positions the drone as a technology validation platform to demonstrate Quantum’s comprehensive capabilities in high-speed drones and related systems.

Quantum Systems said that the experience and technical achievements accumulated during the Apex Recordhunter test flight will be introduced into subsequent multi-type drone projects to improve the overall platform performance and reliability. While applying for certification from Guinness, the N3XT team has launched a new round of prototype development, with the goal of continuing to improve flight speed and maneuverability on the existing basis, and hitting higher-level electric drone speed records.

In addition to the N3XT team, another Quantum Systems team called “WIY Drones” is attempting two additional records in Ukraine. Since the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine war in 2022, Ukraine has gradually become a major practical testing ground for various drone projects and related technologies. The two records that WIY Drones plans to challenge are "STRILA Interceptor" and "SPYS". The corresponding records are: the highest flight speed achieved by a remote-controlled FPV drone carrying a 0.5 kg payload, and the highest flight speed achieved by an air defense FPV interceptor drone.

Quantum Systems Group stated that the company’s existing and future engineering capabilities and technological breakthroughs will serve both civilian and military fields. On the one hand, its drone platform is suitable for a variety of civilian scenarios such as surveying, monitoring, and logistics; on the other hand, the development and testing of WIY Drones in Ukraine highlights that Quantum is gradually increasing its investment in defense products - related products are expected to play an increasingly important role in Germany and even the broader European technology and industrial system.

In terms of platform design concept, Quantum Systems builds its drones into highly interoperable aerial platforms, using modular hardware design, software architecture and artificial intelligence technology to quickly adapt to different sensors and payloads according to mission requirements. Its software core, Mosaic UXS, is a system for unmanned combat and mission control, used for AI-driven unified scheduling and management of multiple unmanned assets in a battlefield environment.

Quantum Systems noted that potential users of products such as the Apex Recordhunter, High Speed Interceptor Drone and Mosaic UXS include European agencies, NATO and other allied markets. As high-speed electric drone technology and intelligent mission control systems mature, Quantum hopes to occupy a key position in the future drone application landscape, whether in the defense field that combines peacetime and wartime, or in a wider range of industrial and civilian scenarios.
