At the beginning of each month, Statcounter releases regular reports revealing the latest data on browsers, operating systems, search engines, and other products. The December 2023 report is now available on the official website. The report details the all-time high of Microsoft Edge, the sudden decline of Safari, and the continued rise of Chrome.
Microsoft Edge returned from third place to second place as the most popular desktop browser after losing to Safari in May 2023. In December 2023, its market share increased from 11.23% to 11.9%. This is an all-time high for the Edge browser, which is available on Windows, macOS, and Linux.
Apple's Safari, on the other hand, is the only non-cross-platform desktop browser in the report. Last month, its ranking dropped from 13.3% to 8.96% (there is currently no information on the reasons behind this drastic change), a far cry from Firefox’s 7.62% (+0.93 percentage points).
Google Chrome remains the browser of choice for most desktop computer users. Its market share is as high as 65.23%, an increase of 3.17 percentage points in December 2023.
Finally, Opera browser ranks among the top five desktop browsers with a market share of 3.8% (-0.74 percentage points).
Google Chrome: 65.23% (+0.93 percentage points)
Microsoft Edge: 11.9% (+0.67 percentage points)
Apple Safari: 8.96% (-4.07 percentage points)
Firefox browser 7.62% (+0.93 percentage points)
Opera: 3.8% (-0.74 percentage points)

Apple Safari: 24.71% (-0.45 percentage points)
Samsung Internet 4.48% (-0.1 percentage point)

Microsoft Edge browser also has a certain user share on iPhone and Android systems, but it is far behind its competitors. Statcounter said Edge's mobile market share is about 0.24%.
