Microsoft Edge for Android and iOS has a new name. Some users noticed that the company recently renamed its mobile browser from "Microsoft Edge" to "Microsoft Edge: AI Browser", which clearly indicates the company's current main focus.

In addition to the new name, the browser also touts new AI features in its App Store and Google Play Store listings, such as DALL-E3 image generator, Copilot article summarization, image recognition, and more. Additionally, the description highlights support for GPT-4, calling Microsoft Edge "your artificial intelligence browser."

Microsoft Edge, your artificial intelligence browser, has Copilot built-in to enhance your browsing experience. Powered by GPT-4, Copilot lets you ask questions, refine searches, receive comprehensive summaries, and create images using DALL-E3. Microsoft Edge is a smarter way to browse, find, create and shop.

The new name seems to have elicited mixed reactions from users. Some think Microsoft doesn't have enough reason to call Edge an "AI browser" yet, while others support the new naming scheme because pressing the Copilot button on the toolbar does get you a lot of extra AI features (most of which are available on other browsers).

2023 shows that Microsoft is betting heavily on artificial intelligence and its partnership with OpenAI has made it possible for Copilot to be widely used. The company has subsequently integrated and promoted Copilot everywhere. In 2024, with the upcoming release of the next generation of Windows and new Surface devices, Microsoft will pay more attention to artificial intelligence-driven experiences.

According to the latest data from Statcounter, Microsoft Edge’s market share on mobile devices is only 0.24%. Time will tell whether adding "AI" to the name can have the magical effect of converting more people from Chrome, Safari, Samsung Internet and other mobile browsers.
