On January 3, local time, former U.S. President Trump appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court. According to the appeal documents submitted by Trump, Trump asked the U.S. Supreme Court to intervene in the Colorado Supreme Court’s case regarding his ineligibility to serve as President of the United States again. According to US media reports, Trump hopes to use the US Supreme Court to overturn the state court's decision to ensure that he can participate in the primaries of the upcoming 2024 presidential election.
The Colorado Supreme Court previously ruled that due to Trump's impact on the Capitol Hill riots on January 6, 2021, Trump is no longer eligible to run in the party's primary election for the 2024 U.S. presidential election in the state, and also requested the Secretary of State not to allow Trump's name to appear on the ballot for the state's presidential election. Maine's secretary of state also announced last week that Trump would be barred from party primaries in the general election, and Trump has appealed the decision in a Maine court.
It is reported that both Colorado and Maine will hold general election primaries on March 5, but ballots must be printed out in advance, and overseas voters' ballots must be mailed before January 20. (CCTV reporter Liu Xiaoqian)
