According to estimates from CleanTechnica, a website focusing on the clean technology and renewable energy industry, Tesla Model Y has delivered nearly 2.5 million vehicles globally since deliveries began in March 2020, breaking the previous record set by Model 3 and becoming the best-selling electric vehicle model to date.
Tesla recently announced fourth-quarter delivery data, delivering 484,507 vehicles, including 461,538 Model 3 and Model Y. But the company doesn't break out sales by individual brands or regions, making estimates of top-selling models more difficult.
However, Cleantechnica's analysis shows that Model Y may be the best-selling electric car of all time based on Tesla's fourth-quarter report.
The website estimates Tesla has sold 2,493,657 Model Ys since first deliveries in March 2020. This number will exceed the estimated 2,295,187 Tesla Model 3 deliveries.
Selling 2 million electric cars is a dream for many car companies, but Tesla has already achieved it with two different models.
