Yesterday, Samsung Electronics announced a partnership with Hyundai Motor Group to jointly create "home-to-car", "car-to-home" and comprehensive home energy management services. It is reported that this is the second cooperation between Samsung Electronics and Hyundai Motor Group after their first cooperation in the field of in-vehicle infotainment in June last year.

Prior to the above statement, the two companies had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on January 3 to establish the partnership. According to the MOU, Samsung will connect its SmartThings platform with Hyundai and Kia's connected vehicles, including electric vehicles, to develop "home-to-car", "car-to-home" and comprehensive home energy management services.

"Home to Car" and "Car to Home" services connect smart homes with in-car infotainment systems, enabling two-way remote control through touch and voice commands. Through Samsung Electronics' SmartThings platform, users can perform various car-related operations at home, such as starting the car, controlling smart air conditioners, opening and closing windows, and checking charging status. In addition, users can also control home appliances such as TVs, air conditioners and electric vehicle chargers through their cars.

Samsung said that users will get a more convenient connection experience through "home to car" and "car to home" services. In order to further strengthen its "car-to-home" service, the company is working closely with its wholly-owned subsidiary HARMAN.

As for home energy management, Samsung said that the comprehensive home energy management service will allow users to monitor the energy consumption of connected devices in the home. It will also provide energy consumption of electric vehicles and chargers, allowing users to adjust the optimal time for vehicle charging. EV owners can also save costs by choosing to charge only during off-peak hours.
