Bloomberg reports that Microsoft executive Dee Templeton has joined the OpenAI board of directors as a non-voting observer, according to a person familiar with the matter, as part of a larger board overhaul after the startup's CEO was briefly ousted.
According to the female executive's LinkedIn profile, she has worked at Microsoft for 25 years and serves as vice president of technology, research partnerships and operations. The person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the discussions, said she has begun attending board meetings to discuss internal information. OpenAI and Microsoft declined to comment.
Previously, in November last year, the OpenAI board of directors suddenly fired the company's CEO Sam Altman. However, the company withdrew the decision after widespread reports, and the board of directors that made the decision made major changes. Bret Taylor, the new chairman of the board of directors, said that OpenAI will "establish a qualified and diverse board of directors composed of outstanding people," including a non-voting observer from Microsoft, OpenAI's largest shareholder.
