Ahead of the 2024 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Samsung has unveiled a new display that uses transparent LEDs to project content, promising to make "the line between content and reality virtually indistinguishable." Transparent displays are not new, and Samsung has been working hard to improve them since it was first released in 2015.
However, Samsung's new transparent microLED display will provide users with a superior experience compared to its competitors. The company notes that the technology works by combining a screen as thin as glass with "tiny microLED chips and precision manufacturing processes that eliminate seams and light refraction." Samsung said that it can provide clear and unobstructed pictures in any scenario of home or commercial needs.
Six years in the making, this new modular microLED is a futuristic, crystal-clear, glass-like display that revolutionizes the viewing experience. Additionally, the company confirmed that the screen will be available in multiple sizes, allowing users to customize the shape and size to suit their needs.
MicroLED adopts a modular design, allowing users to customize the shape, size and proportion of the screen to fit any space. It is a truly innovative screen technology. Drawing on its expertise in the semiconductor field and after years of research and development, Samsung has developed an extremely effective process that deposits LED chip operating circuits directly onto the glass, thereby reducing the brightness loss that users may experience when using traditional displays.
When Samsung announced the product, it also shared a short video to show off the new microLED display:
There's no word yet on price or availability, but we expect Samsung to share more information at CES 2024 and throughout this year.
