According to Data.ai's new report "The State of Mobile Gaming in 2024", consumer spending on mobile games will reach US$107 billion in 2023, a year-on-year decrease of 2%. Global consumers spend an average of US$1.5 billion on mobile games every week, and mobile games were downloaded more than 1.1 billion times throughout the year. In terms of mobile game spending, Chinese players lead all markets with $376. Other markets with the highest revenue for mobile games are:
·United States: $24 billion
·Japan: US$12.78 billion
· South Korea: US$6.34 billion
·Germany: US$2.6 billion
Casual puzzle games remain the most popular mobile game type, with 16.4 billion downloads. Simulation games ranked second with 10.5 billion downloads; action games ranked third with 5.5 billion downloads.
China still accounts for the largest share of the download rankings, reaching 29.32 billion times. Download rankings in other countries/regions are:
·India: 9.66 billion times
·Brazil: 4.62 billion times
·United States: 4.55 billion times
·Indonesia: 3.38 billion times
Dividing player expenditures by game type, role-playing games such as "Genshin Impact" have the highest cumulative global revenue, reaching US$24.5 billion. The other top performing types are:
·Strategy: US$10.7 billion
·Xiaoxiaole: US$10.2 billion
·Casino category: US$8.3 billion
The report pointed out that the three most consumed mobile games in the world in 2023 are "Civilization Hegemony", "Lineage M" and "Honkai Impact: Star Rail".
