In July 2023, Chinese gaming giant Tencent acquired a majority stake in Dying Light developer Techland for an undisclosed price and became a major shareholder. According to a recent report by Polish media Bankier.pl, the deal was estimated to have cost Tencent US$1.6 billion at the time, making it the largest acquisition in Poland last year.

Bankier.pl reported that Tencent spent US$1.6 billion in 2023 to become the majority shareholder of Techland. However, Tencent did not completely acquire Techland. Techland retained full ownership of the IP, had creative freedom, and continued to operate in a way the team believed was right.

Techland has at least 400 employees and offices in Warsaw and Wroclaw, but the manufacturer does not have many game products and its results in the past few years have not been ideal. Many netizens were surprised by this huge deal and did not expect Techland to be worth so much money.
