During the CES2024 exhibition, Intel Fellow and graphics technology expert Tom Peterson disclosed the latest progress of Intel Arc graphics cards in interviews with the media, including the second generation Battlemage and the third generation Celestial. The first generation of Alchemist has been basically laid out as early as 2022. The focus in 2023 is on optimizing driver performance and adaptation, and only one mainstream ArcA580 has been released.
The second generation of Battlemage was originally scheduled for 2023-early 2024, and was optimistically expected to be at the end of 2023 or early 2024, but now it seems to be greatly delayed, andIntel has learned the lesson of the first generation’s continuous delays and no longer discloses the specific release time in advance.
Of course, work is still in progress, and the next generation has also made great progress.
Tom Peterson revealed that the second generation of Arc graphics Battlemage is indeed coming. He is very excited about it and all the engineers are working hard on it.About 30% are busy with second-generation products, and most of them are busy with software development and optimization.
As for the hardware team, the main focus has turned to the third generation of Celestial.
The second generation of Battlemage currently has the first batch of laboratory samples, and more good news will be announced later. Tom Peterson hopes to see it debut before CES2025.
Do we have to wait another year?
It is worth mentioning that the Lunar Lake processor, which will be launched later this year, will introduce a low-power version of the second-generation Xe2 architecture used in Battlemage for the first time. It will never get ahead of the independent graphics card, right? LeTV
Of course, from another perspective, it is better to fully absorb experience and do a good job in driving work than to rush to launch new hardware.
