Blizzard is about to overhaul the gameplay of Overwatch 2, and this change will be launched in Season 9 at the end of January. After Season 9, for the first time in Overwatch history, all characters will have built-in healing, including tanks and DPS heroes. After the changes are rolled out, tanks and DPS heroes will slowly regenerate health outside of combat.

Game director Aaron Keller said in a recent announcement blog post that this will be an "adjusted version that supports the autohealing passive." In addition, another introductory announcement for the game stated that the new season will also reduce "damage bursts in combat."

Overwatch 2 has had serious balance problems recently. The recently launched new tank hero Maojia has completely broken the balance of the game. As a tank hero, he has super high damage, but at the same time, as a tank hero, he has the worst damage resistance. These problems were not improved until Blizzard implemented nerfs this week, which according to lead hero designer Alec Dawson "may be more severe than necessary."

Maojia may also be responsible for this change, as he has the self-healing passive. In fact, most tanks can already restore their damage resistance through gradual restoration or cooldown shields, or healing skills.
