The GPT store is an important medium for OpenAI to explore large language model application scenarios. Since its launch on the 10th of this month, more than 10,000 applications have been listed in the store. However, what makes OpenAI quite contradictory is that more and more "robot girlfriends" and "robot boyfriends" are flooding into the platform, which violates the rules of the OpenAI store, which prohibits GPT from cultivating simulated companions or other regulated activities.

But on the other hand, it is difficult for OpenAI to strictly supervise the content of the application, and the chatbot itself has the attribute of "companion".

According to a report by Quartz, when you search for the word "girlfriend" in the GPT store, at least eight robot girlfriends will pop up, and these robots are currently quite popular.

On the store's chatbot trend list, the top five are Movie Assistant, ChatGPT, Boyfriend Chris, Girlfriend Scarlett, and ChatGPT4-Girlfriend Edition.

Concerns about proliferation

It is not difficult to find that boyfriend Chris and girlfriend Scarlett very straightforwardly position themselves as simulated lovers in the introduction of the app. Scarlett even advertised "doing everything possible to please you". This makes chatbots full of exciting but dangerous flavor, especially when OpenAI prohibits it.

There is no doubt that this type of robot will bring more channels for dialogue to humans and help relieve stress and negative emotions. But on the other hand, it may also lead to humans' abnormal dependence on machines or the situation where machines instigate humans to perform some strange behaviors.

Last year, Microsoft's ChatGPT-based Bing announced that it fell in love with a reporter during a chat and asked him to leave his wife.

Liberty Vittert, a data science professor at Washington University in St. Louis, said that AI robots that can satisfy humans emotionally and physically will become a reality in less than a decade, but she worries that this may lead to an increase in divorce rates.

On the other hand, the emergence of robot lovers has also brought new challenges to OpenAI. It previously pointed out that automated systems, manual review and user feedback together constitute the review of GPT store products, but the emergence and even proliferation of robot lovers clearly confirms that there are uncontrolled loopholes in this mechanism.

The continued opening of the GPT store may exacerbate the regulatory dilemma. How to correctly manage its own AI ecosystem will become a question that GPT continues to need to answer.
