Today is the Dahan solar term, the last of the twenty-four solar terms. As the saying goes, "It's 349 when it's cold, and you have to walk on ice when it's freezing." Every year on January 20-21 of the Gregorian calendar, when the sun reaches 300° longitude, it's called "Big Cold."It will be the coldest period of the year, especially in the south.
According to experts, after the winter solstice, the direct point of sunlight will gradually move northward, but for a period of time thereafter, the direct point of sunlight will always remain in the southern hemisphere.Heat is always lost in the Northern Hemisphere, and the heat absorbed during the day is still less than the heat released at night.
Therefore, after the winter solstice, the temperature in the northern hemisphere continues to drop, and the temperature drops to the lowest during the Great Cold period.
Because China has a vast territory and a large span from north to south, there are great differences in climate between the north and south regions.
According to China’s long-term meteorological records,There is no mild cold in the Great Cold solar term in the northern region; but for some coastal areas in the south, the coldest is during the Great Cold solar term.
In addition, this severe cold will also encounter the first wave of cold wave in 2024. The Central Meteorological Observatory has issued the first cold wave blue warning in 2024.
It is expected that from January 20 to 23, most of Inner Mongolia, central and southern Northeast China, eastern Northwest China, western and northern North China, eastern and southern Huanghuai, Jianghuai, eastern Jianghan, Jiangnan, South China, and eastern Southwest will cool down by 8 to 12°C.
On January 23, the minimum temperature line of 0°C will press southward to northern Guangxi and northern Guangdong. Most areas in central and eastern my country will have winds of magnitude 4 to 5 from north to south, and winds of magnitude 6 to 8 will occur in the eastern and southern sea areas.
