Abstract:
The Greek parliament passed a bill on Friday banning children under 15 from using social media platforms. The move comes amid growing concerns about the impact of social media on the health and safety of minors. The ban will take effect from January 1, 2027.

Australia is the first country to pass legislation restricting the use of social media by minors. Relevant legislation was introduced last year. France had previously passed a similar law, but the bill was ruled invalid by the French Constitutional Council in August.
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said that social media platforms have two and a half months to develop plans to verify the age of users and protect their privacy.
Greece is one of seven countries in the EU that are working with the European Commission to find solutions to age verification.
The Greek government said it is willing to work with parents to curb the phenomenon of "endless scrolling" - a behavior that causes children to lack sleep, have difficulty concentrating, and takes up time with their friends.
