Apple Maps ads on iPhone are officially launched: promotional content is displayed at the top of searches and cannot be turned off manually

📅 2026-08-26

Abstract:

According to MacRumors reports, Apple Maps advertising function has been officially launched in the United States and Canada. iPhone and iPad users will see paid advertising content when searching for places and viewing recommended places.

Apple announced its map advertising plan as early as March this year, and it is determined to be launched at the end of summer. Recently, ads have begun to be pushed to users, and the scale of advertising will continue to expand in the next few weeks.

Ads will appear in the recommended location section of the search page. When a merchant purchases the corresponding keyword ad, the promotion entry will be displayed at the top of the search results. Only one ad will be displayed for each search, and the ad will have a blue "Ad" logo to distinguish it from ordinary results.

It is worth noting that the system does not provide a setting option to turn off map ads, and users cannot completely block this type of promotional content.

Apple emphasizes privacy-related mechanisms. Data generated from interactions between users and advertisements will not be bound to Apple accounts, and relevant information will not be shared with third-party manufacturers.

Apple has been preparing for this feature throughout the summer, and traces of relevant code have already appeared in the iOS26 version.

The purchase of advertising space for merchants has been open since August, and participating merchants can receive a 15% rebate of subsequent advertising expenditures as an incentive.
