Abstract:
Recently, the first-generation LEGO PlayStation building set was unveiled at Sony’s State of Play. The set, which consists of 1,911 bricks, is priced at $179.99 and is scheduled to be released on October 1. This set of products is a nearly 1:1 reproduction of the first-generation PS console. The model restores the memory card slot, the openable disc compartment, and comes with a pluggable first-generation joystick-less PS controller. The body is equipped with a pull-out hidden compartment, and the interior has miniature three-dimensional scenes of two classic PS games, "GT Racing" and "Monkey Hunting".
Steffi Steffen, senior director of Sony Interactive Entertainment, said: "To make this set a reality, we worked closely with LEGO designers to create a building experience that stems from the origins of PlayStation. As players build, they will discover hidden details from PlayStation's history, as well as elements from two iconic games of the original PS, Monkey King and Gran Turismo."
It is reported that each scene model has an adjustable design. "GT Racing" is equipped with a miniature track and scaled-down cars, while "Monkey Catching" restores an island full of nostalgia. The lights on the monkey's helmet can be changed to blue or red. The set also adds a variety of operable structures such as the host's power button and opening button. The handle can also be inserted into the host, and the two game scene models can be removed and displayed separately.
This is not the first time that Lego has launched a retro game console assembly kit. Lego has previously sold building blocks for Atari 2600, Sega MD, and Nintendo NES consoles. Mattel is also developing first-generation Xbox themed assembly sets, and retro game hardware building blocks are becoming a new collection direction.
