Abstract:
The management of Automattic, the parent company of WordPress, has undergone major changes recently. The original company CEO Matt Mullenweg has been voted by the board of directors to take a mandatory leave. The company's chief financial officer temporarily took over as the CEO and is responsible for the company's daily operations. Mullenweg directly publicly stated that board members colluded to seize power.
Mullenweg said in the team group that members of the company's board of directors pushed for relevant resolutions without prior notification, and finally voted to force Mullenweg to take a paid leave and temporarily leave the company. Mullenweg was obviously very dissatisfied with the board's arrangements, including the fact that he only received the resolution forcing him to take leave about 50 minutes before the meeting started.
Currently, Mullenweg remains a member of the company's board of directors and will participate in the company's operational direction and important decisions, but daily operating affairs will be taken over by the chief financial officer. The Automattic board of directors has not yet issued a response on the matter. The board only confirmed that Mullenweg has been placed on leave and has been placed as interim CEO, without responding to the alleged conspiracy.
It should be noted that although the open source content management system WordPress is developed and managed by Automattic, WordPress is an open source project and is co-governed by the community. Mullenweg’s forced leave should not have a significant impact on the WordPress project.
