The iPhone 15 Pro can be your next desktop computer. All iPhone 15 models can be connected to an external monitor via a cable, but Apple's latest models only support video mirroring and don't offer the same experience as a native desktop computer. While there's still room for improvement, we got a small demonstration of what's possible.

A video posted by @iOS_App_Dev on X shows the iPhone 15 Pro connected to Apple Studio Display via a cable. You may have used a USB-C to USB-C or Thunderbolt cable when connecting the display to your iPhone, as both Apple products only come with USB-C ports. StudioDisplay has 5K resolution, and assuming the iPhone 15 Pro can drive all those pixels, the results will be great.
The infiniteX2PStudio demo version demonstrates how to switch from video mirroring mode to desktop mode. In the video, we can clearly see the developer opening a large Google Chrome browser with several icons in the bottom center and a drop-down menu showing various options. Developers also demonstrated the ability to open multiple windows, providing a macOS-like experience.
Unfortunately, the experience is far from perfect, with the video showing a long delay when opening the browser. The developers mentioned that rounded corners are the main cause of this delay, and are currently working on improving the experience significantly. Apple doesn't officially offer a desktop mode for any iPhone 15 models, but infiniteX2PStudio could be an extraordinary start.
Samsung has allowed its flagship phones to enter desktop mode using a cable, a feature the company calls "DeX," but it has yet to catch on with users, possibly because it hasn't done enough to optimize it. However, it won't be surprising that in a few years our smartphones will become our entire desktops, requiring only a single cable and an external monitor, and supporting a mouse and keyboard "out of the box." The hardware is definitely capable, now it’s up to the company to control and develop the necessary software.
