Apple plans to increase production in India more than fivefold in the next five years, government officials said. The official said Apple's production capacity in India exceeded US$7 billion in the last fiscal year and its latest target is US$40 billion.

Currently, Apple already produces iPhones in India and plans to start producing AirPods next year. Apple launched the India-made iPhone 15 for the first time on its global launch day this month.
Meanwhile, India's deputy technology minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar said earlier this month that India is seeking to expand its electronics industry to $300 billion by 2026.
